Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Information Center

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in 1970 with the aim of developing environmental policies designed to protect our air, water, and land from harmful pollutants. For 50 years, the EPA has worked to create and enforce regulations strengthening environmental law, and has supported states’ and tribal nations’ efforts to enforce their own regulations. The EPA also provides grants to regional environmental programs, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and scientific research that advances our knowledge of environmental concerns. The EPA actively promotes public awareness of the urgent issues surrounding the health of our ecosystems.

Unfortunately, the Trump administration has disbanded the pollution science review panels that were essential for evaluating current air quality research and integrating it into environmental policy. Nevertheless, although the EPA has been significantly weakened, it provides an essential body of work that helps to maintain the quality of our diminishing natural resources. Here are a few websites that can help you learn about all of the services that the EPA provides.

  • The Environmental Protection Agency website provides information, news, and updates on significant environmental events and concerns. There are links to pages offering the most relevant information about local air quality, drinking water standards, as well as everything you need to know about common environmental hazards, like molds and lead. https://www.epa.gov/
  • This page is about the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. This policy offers federal assistance to farmers who implement technologies and practices that reduce their overall energy consumption and preserve the quality of the natural resources on their land, including soil, water, plants, and wildlife. The Federal Register is a government resource that offers online access to all of the governmental policies, rules, and regulations, including presidential documents such as administrative orders. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/12/17/2019-26872/environmental-quality-incentives-program
